Bio*squishes brain to fekking remember everything* *Please, PLEASE forgive me if I use some dub terms*
HO-kay. Yamato Ishida, part of the original set of Chosen Children.
He, like everyone else of the first chosen ones, was chose because he witnessed a fight between two digimons (Greymon and Parrotmon) when he was a kid.
His parents divorced when he was young, ending with him living in Odaiba with his father and his little brother, Takeru, living with his mother (IN SOMEWHERE ELSE *ded*).
One summer, when he was eleven (I think), he (along with six more kids) was abducted to the digital world! :O Where he met his digimon partner, Gabumon, and then discovered that he was one of the Chosen Children to save the digital world.
So well, Yamato preferred to be alone just with Takeru, constantly saying that they could do well on their own; at first just standing the other kids. But surprisingly enough, as the series advance, he’s chose to hold the crest of friendship.
So then Taichi disappears and they separate then reunite again and go to the real world to looks for the 8th chosen child who turns out to be Hikari (Taichi’s sister) then they go back to find Piedmon and co and just him, with Taichi, can reach the final level (mega level or something). Yamato got brainwhased by Cherrimon who tells him that Taichi is his enemy and has aHOT fight against him and leaves the group with Gabumon, and they separate in three groups, one with Taichi, Sora, Hikari, Koushiro and Takeru, the other with just Mimi and Jou and finally just Yamato alone with Gabumon. But then, Yamato realizes that he loves Taichi is a very important friend to him and then they got this slashy scene and everyone got together again ♥.
However they’re still not strong enough to beat Piedmon (or more likely HE CHEATS and transforms the kids into plushies) but then Angemon ultra digievolves to Magnaangemon and beats Piedmon and everything seems happy and okay for a moment when they find out that Piedmon wasn’t their final adversary… And Apocarymon shows up. They fight their final battle against him and thus, losing their crests.
Then, jumping to the movies, he appears again when Diaboromon tries to take the intrawebz (yeah, only Taichi, Koushiro, Takeru and him are the only ones concerned about this, since Jou it’s presenting an exam, Mimi on vacations, Sora being mad at Taichi and Hikari on a party: Oh yeah, Yamato was visiting his gramma in some place forgotten by God [with NO intrawebz] but he got Taichi’s call and took action in the matter)and in order to stop him (since, oh god, he’s so damn powerful) MetalGarurumon and Wargreymon do the DNA-evolution and gave birth to Omnimon and they pwn Diaboromon’s ass :D
Then we jump to second season. Yamato becomes a secondary character, barely appearing on some episodes. Mostly just being a mentor for the younger ones since he is part of the original set, and just being cool, and singing in a band and that sorta stuff. Frequently being harassed/stalked by unwanted fangirls.
Yamato at first doesn’t like Daisuke, because of what he said of his sister… but then he meets Jun and creeps out.
Also he marries Sora but that something I don’t like to talk about ^_^
Oh he also appears in Diaboromon Strikes Back, and that other creepy movie where he confesses to Sora o_ô but again, as a minor character.
My shot to understand better his character is the following.
Yamato is a lonely character. The kind of character that prefers to be alone and only speaks when it’s necessary.
Why? I think that the fact that his parents got divorced when he was young had a lot to do with this, making him have a less cheerful childhood and closing himself from other people. That’s why his personality clashed so much with Taichi’s, since he was a bit more mature for his age and cold while Taichi was reckless and openly friendly, but still having serious emotional problems.
Based on this he also developed a brother complex, to the point of being desperate to know that Takeru still needed him. That’s why, when he saw that Taichi was starting doing this part (as Cherrimon made him believe) he got blind by rage and jealousy.
Truth was that I think Yamato was actually craving for friendship, that’s why he got that crest, because he considered it to be a very important thing, even if he didn’t expressed it (maybe he just didn’t know how), to be more like Taichi and get away from his loneliness.
However, he found a way to overcome the ‘darkness’ he had inside and thus, maturing some more and becoming a better person. Yay.
In the second season, I think he became more like a cool, smooth person. You know, the ones like tend to shut you up with a glance when mad and have a ‘Don’t fuck with me’ label stamped on their forehead. When in truth Yamato loves their friends a lot and will do anything for them. And even if he may still have problems expressing his feelings, he’s pretty nice to hang along with once you gain his trust.
He still has a bit of a brother complex towards Takeru.
He became wiser through the years and still thinking before taking a decision/doing anything, and he’s definitely way more mature than Taichi.
Speaking of which, his relationship with Taichi grew better, now becoming best friends (the kind that will tell you the truth in your face even if it hurt or will hit you in the face if you need it).
… And that’s all I have to give for Yamato LOL.
